first_imgLast night in Laguna Nigel, CA, 360i’s CEO Sarah Hofstetter took the stage at Fortune‘s Most Powerful Women Next Gen Summit to discuss how her Jewish Orthodox faith has impacted her storied career in advertising. While speaking with Fortune’s Assistant Managing Editor Leigh Gallagher, Sarah shared how growing up in an Orthodox Jewish community in Long Island – walking distance from the synagogue – instilled values in her that she would hold true to throughout her career. As part of her faith Sarah observers the Sabbath, disconnecting from the online world (email, technology, electricity) from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday and keeps Kosher. “It’s really complicated to be an agency CEO when a lot of the negotiations and discussions and relationship development do happen in restaurants, when you’re working on a pitch, you’re working through the weekend,” Sarah said to the Most Powerful Women audience, “It’s not just the clients, but it’s also I’m leading 1,000 people and its Friday afternoon… and people have to work late on a client assignment or a pitch and I’m going to go home and light some candles and drink wine. It doesn’t really fly so well.”She continued, “With clients… you just make it into a cultural experience. [It’s become] a big turning point for me…. When you’re vulnerable, other people become vulnerable as well. You start letting down your guard and it allows you to establish real, actual relationships with people.”Watch the full session in the video above or read more on Fortune.com.last_img
