PNG to host U20 women’s soccer tri-nation series

first_imgThe tri-nation series is part of PNG’s preparations in the lead up to hosting the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in November.The tri nation’s series will be held at the Sir John Guise Stadium on the 24th, 27th and 30th of May.It will coincide with the Oceania Football Confederation’s (OFC) Nation’s Cup that will be staged in Port Moresby.The PNG U-20 Women’s coach, Lisa Cole said unlike Japan and USA, they have had two years of preparation while the PNG team have had just had a couple of months training.However, Coles said they have done evaluations and a lot of fitness based testing from a physical perspective and are excited to be preparing for the matches at the end of May.“Our upcoming training will look at how we play, what our pressures going to look like, what our systems will look like so I’m looking forward to the training with the girls,” she said.“Playing against teams like Japan and USA will help us prepare because right now it’s hard to know what we don’t know,” said Cole.Cole added the original squad of 28 players has been trimmed down to 22 with the final squad for the World Cup to be named in October.PNG will play Japan on Tuesday 24 May with Japan taking on USA on the 27th. PNG will then play against USA on the 30th of May.last_img
