first_img White sturgeon retention is closed from Buoy 10 at the mouth of the Columbia River upstream to the Oregon/Washington Border above McNary Dam, but remains an option for catch-and-release fishing.A few plus-sized fall rainbow trout are still available in the lakes stocked on Black Friday.Fall trout plantings have begun in local lakes and in the Columbia River Gorge, and fishing has been very good.Trophy-sized brooder trout are being planted in local lakes and in the Columbia River Gorge. Walleye fishing has slowed considerably in the Columbia River.Early winter steelhead fishing in Salmon Creek is very slow.Salmon/SteelheadColumbia River Mainstem — From the Buoy 10 line upstream to the Highway 395 Bridge at Pasco: Closed to angling for and retention of salmon and steelhead.Grays River — One bank angler had no catch. One boat/two rods had no catch.Elochoman River — 65 bank anglers kept five steelhead and released three coho jacks. Two boats/five rods had one steelhead kept.Abernathy Creek — Two bank anglers had no catch.Germany Creek — Two bank anglers had no catch.Cowlitz River — I-5 Bridge downstream: Four bank rods had no catch. Above the I-5 Bridge: Nine bank rods released one adult chinook and three coho jacks. Two boats/four rods released one adult coho. One boat/one rod had no catch.Salmon Creek — 63 bank anglers released two steelhead.Recent trout plantsBattle Ground Lake — Planted with 100 trophy-sized brooder rainbow trout on Dec. 11. The lake has been fishing very well recently.Klineline Pond — Planted with 2,000 rainbow trout at 2.6 per pound on Dec. 12.Lacamas Lake — Planted with 6,000 rainbow trout at 2.5 per pound on Dec. 12.Little Ash Lake — Planted with 30 brooder rainbows at about 5 pounds each on Dec. 10.Tunnel Lake — Planted with 30 brooder rainbows at about 5 pounds each on Dec. 10.KokaneeMerwin Lake kokanee fishing continues to be good, although the extra-large fish that were being seen in the creels have not been found in the latest catches. Anglers are catching kokanee in the 12- to 14-inch range, but they are reportedly exceptionally chunky.Yale Lake kokanee fishing continues to be good.WalleyeBonneville Pool — Weekly checking showed no catch for one boat (one angler).The Dalles Pool — Weekly checking showed two walleye kept, plus one walleye released for two boats (four anglers).
