Imam’s effort saw Pakistan post a challenging total of 358/9 but England still won the game comfortably with the help of Jonny Bairstow’s attacking 128(93).Earlier, after being put in to bat, Imam-ul-Haq justified the faith of the selectors in him by hitting his way to a magnificent 6th hundred of his ODI career. It was when he crossed 150 that he broke the record previously owned by Indian legend Kapil Dev.At just over 24 years of age, Kapil had played a memorable counterattacking innings of 175* against Zimbabwe during the 1983 World Cup after India were reduced to 17/5 batting first. The innings laid the foundation for India’s maiden World Cup win that followed a few days later. But Imam who was just 23 years and 153 days old at the start of the 3rd ODI against England, made Kapil’s record his own.Imam’s 151 was also the highest score ever for a Pakistan player against England in ODIs. Also, England’s win meant that it was the highest successful chase on English soil ever in ODIs.Incidentally, this was Pakistan’s second successive loss to England after the visitors had failed to chase down 374 in the 2nd ODI at Southampton, falling short by 13 runs. The 1st ODI in London was washed out due to rain. The two sides still have two more ODIs to play before playing the warm-up matches for the upcoming 2019 World Cup. Pakistan need to win the remaining ODIs in order to prevent a series defeat.advertisementAlso Read | 3rd ODI: Bairstow hits hundred as England chase down 359 runs in 45 overs vs PakistanAlso Read | When MS Dhoni suggested a Rs 10,000 fine, no one was ever late again for team meetingsFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
