Scott Frost Has Message For Nebraska Players Wearing Blackshirt Uniform

first_img The black uniforms are obviously evocative of the blackshirts that Nebraska’s defensive players wear during practice. Considering that defense has given up 30+ points in four games already this season, including 48-7 and 34-7 losses to Ohio State and Minnesota in its last three games, I’m sure plenty of those in the Huskers’ community would argue they haven’t played up to the blackshirt standard. Now, with the whole team set to wear black, Scott Frost has warned that the team needs to show up with a big effort against the Hoosiers.Nebraska will indeed wear alternate uniforms — black and white — against Indiana.Frost told the team if they’re going to wear them, the team better show up and play with an attitude befitting the Blackshirt tradition.— Steven M. Sipple (@HuskerExtraSip) October 21, 2019Back in August, the alternate uniforms were unveiled to great fanfare. Now we’ll see if they energize a team that hasn’t carried the weight of high preseason expectations too well thus far.Of course, the much bigger looming factor is the health of quarterback Adrian Martinez. When asked about his status coming off of the week off, Frost said it was “hard to say” whether his starting quarterback is on track to play or not.Martinez missed the game against Minnesota after suffering a knee injury the week prior against Northwestern. Noah Vedral got the start against the Golden Gophers, but left due to his own leg injury in that game. His status is also not totally clear. The Huskers are coming off of a drubbing at the hands of Minnesota, and after a bye, heading into a big game against Indiana. Now, Scott Frost has made an announcement that might give his team a bit of extra motivation this Saturday. The Hoosiers, typically an also-ran in the Big Ten East, are 5-2 on the year. While Nebraska has been disappointing this season, it is still on pace to make a bowl game. The Huskers really need this one to keep from flirting with the 6-6 cut line this season, with tough Wisconsin and Iowa games coming up in November. They’re breaking out some special uniforms for the occasion.Scott Frost has confirmed that the team will wear black and white alternates for Saturday’s game.last_img
