CLEMSON, SOUTH CAROLINA – AUGUST 29: Quarterback Trevor Lawrence #16 of the Clemson Tigers warms up prior to the start of the Tigers’ football game against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Memorial Stadium on August 29, 2019 in Clemson, South Carolina. (Photo by Mike Comer/Getty Images)Trevor Lawrence entered the year with about as much hype a college quarterback can get. Clemson remains undefeated, and Lawrence has had moments, but he hadn’t delivered the type of performances most expected after how good he looked down the stretch last season.Enter: Florida State. The Seminoles have had some signs of life in recent weeks after a brutal 2018, but Clemson appears to really be shaking off some rust against the team that used to dominate the ACC Atlantic Division.Lawrence has been incredibly sharp, in particular. The favorite to be the 2021 No. 1 NFL Draft pick led Clemson to touchdowns on four of their first five drives, throwing for three scores in the first half.An interception puts a slight damper on things, but his numbers are still very impressive: 16-for-22 for 162 yards and three scores as we near halftime. He’s also getting it done on the ground, to the tune of 40 yards and an impressive touchdown run. Nasty fake pitch by Trevor Lawrence and he gets in for the Clemson TOUCHDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pic.twitter.com/sHarkdkJ9g— NCAAF Nation (@NCAAFNation247) October 12, 2019Justyn Ross has been the most successful target so far, with four catches for 53 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tee Higgins and Amari Rodgers each have 44 yards, while Etienne caught the third touchdown to go with his 89 first half rushing yards.Ahead of this weekend’s game, Trevor Lawrence admitted that he was dealing with some sort of shoulder issue, and is wearing an extra layer of protection, but says it isn’t impacting his mechanics. It certainly looks like he’s healthy so far today. Clemson is set to go into the half up 28-0 on the Seminoles.
