first_imgIndian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth entered the Hong Kong Open Super 500 quarter-finals after he registered a win over compatriot Sourabh Verma in the men’s singles on Thursday.In a match that lasted for over an hour, Srikanth defeated Verma 21-11, 15-21, 21-19.Srikanth avoided a possible first-round exit here as he got a bye against World No.1 Kento Momota as the Japanese pulled out of the tournament.Srikanth has been struggling with his form lately as he also fell out of the top 10 BWF rankings and slid to 13th in the most recent update of the rankings.In another men’s singles match, HS Prannoy crashed out of the Hong Kong Open after losing to World No. 6 Jonatan Christie in straight games. Prannoy was outplayed 12-21, 19-21 by his Indonesian opponent.Earlier, London Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal suffered another early exit as she was knocked out in the 1st round itself after losing to Cai Yan Yan in just 30 minutes.The Chinese teenager, who had knocked Saina Nehwal out of Fuzhou China Open last week, clinched another straight-game win (21-13, 22-20) over her higher-ranked opponent.PV Sindhu entered the 2nd round of the Hong Kong Open with a 21-15, 21-16 win over Korea’s Kim Ga Eun in the first round.
