Huawei Mate 30 series launch today: Expected specs and how to watch event live

first_imgHuawei will launch the Mate 30 series in Munich, Germany today. The launch event will begin at 14:00 CEST (5:30pm IST) and Huawei will be livestreaming the unveiling. The Mate 30 series is expected to include the flagship Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro phones powered by the new Kirin 990 5G chipset, and a mid-range Mate 30 Lite. In addition to a new Kirin 990 SoC, the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will feature upgraded cameras in a circular module as seen on numerous renders and live images already.Huawei Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro and Mate 30 Lite expected design and specsThere have been a number of leaked renders and live images of the Mate 30 phones to give us a good idea of what each of the three devices will look like (four if you count the Mate 30 RS Porsche Design also). The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will sport curved displays on the front with wide notches for advanced facial recognition.The back of the Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will look quite unique as they will sport a large circular camera module on the center to house multiple cameras. Both the phones are expected to come with quad cameras and will likely offer upgraded sensors compared to the ones on the P30 series.As per a recent leaked info by tipster Ishan Agarwal, the Mate 30 Pro will come with two 40MP ssensors, an 8MP telephoto lens and a depth sensor. Notably, the Mate 30 Pro will apparently come with a new 7680fps ultra slow-mo recording at 720p.The Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro will be powered by the new Kirin 990 SoC that comes with a built-in 5G modem. Huawei has confirmed that Kirin 990 will come to India soon, which suggests the Mate 30 series will also come to the country soon enough.A big question of everyone’s mind going into the event today will be what software Huawei is running on the Mate 30 phones. With the ongoing US ban on Huawei, the company cannot ship the Mate 30 with an official Android software with Google apps on board. So an open source version of Android seems possible.As for the Mate 30 Lite, this will be a mid-range smartphone that will also offer a quad camera setup, but in a square-shaped module.
